A Different Kind of Break
While many NHL stars spend their mid-season break on sunny beaches, Duchene chose something else — peace and family time in his hometown of Haliburton, Ontario. Instead of warm weather, he and his family embraced the snow, skating on frozen lakes and ice fishing. For Duchene, it was a reminder of where his love for the game began.
Early Career: From Rookie to Rollercoaster
Duchene was drafted third overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2009 and jumped straight into the NHL at just 18. Living with veteran Adam Foote, he began learning the life of a professional.
